Hankin
& Co. strategy boot camp generates hard-edged, fact-based,
output-driven decision making. We use strategy boot camp sessions at the
front end and the back end of many of our engagements to ensure that client
management is achieving best choices with aligned and integrated objectives,
strategies, and implementation.
A
successful business requires a compelling mission, substantive values,
and a clearly articulated vision. The Hankin & Co. strategy
boot camp is, in our experience, the most effective means by which an
organization can promote understanding of and commitment to its objectives
while developing the strategic and tactical actions necessary to realize
selected objectives.
Our
strategy boot camps are highly interactive team-oriented sessions in which
key executives actively engage in defining issues, analyzing information,
brainstorming options, testing solutions, and achieving consensus under
the guidance of Hankin & Co. The process promotes innovative
thinking and collaboration, with a valuable side effect being awareness
of any difficulties within the management team. An individual whose objectives
are inconsistent with those of the team and the organization is quickly
identified in the boot camp process.
The
issues are real, the problems are real, and the solutions are real. Participants
leave these sessions having successfully aligned strategy and objectives
in a challenging but collaborative team environment. In addition to new
ideas and solutions, they take with them knowledge, strategies, techniques,
tools, and attitudes that keep the organization focused on common goals.
Our
strategy sessions foster innovative thinking in an organization, and they
provide an opportunity for individuals to share knowledge, perspectives,
and vision. This guided collaboration builds a strong executive network
committed to the selected objectives and the accomplishment of actions
required for implementation. It creates a productive environment conducive
to communication and innovation. Participating executives learn to evaluate
and balance risk factors with creative solutions as they actively engage
in formulating strategies to achieve articulated objectives.
Strategy
Boot Camp
The Process

The
processes we employ in our strategy boot camps have evolved through experience
in over 300 highly productive sessions. Our facilitators are seasoned
business executives whose line experience enhances their expertise. They
apply a unique system that evolves through organized and energetic brainstorming,
displayed thinking, and team problem solving to focus on identifying and
evaluating the real issues and challenges facing the company today.
During
the strategy boot camp, we provide tools to assist the executive team
in developing and assessing options and in resolving conflict at the strategic
level. We customize each session to accommodate the unique characteristics
of the organization and its members. This approach integrates executive
learning with organizational productivity, as participants focus their
efforts on industry-specific and company-specific issues.
Participant
Interviews
Prior to the strategy boot camp, we individually meet with and interview
each identified participant. The interview gives us an opportunity to
become acquainted with the participants in advance of the session and
to answer any questions or concerns they may have about the process. It
also provides an informal opportunity to confidentially explore and discuss
the issues considered by the individual to be of importance to the company.
The knowledge gained in the interviews enables Hankin & Co.
to effectively guide the session and to anticipate any special needs.
Strategy
Boot Camp
The boot camp activities follow a process that has been proven to generate
innovative and relevant strategic choices. Participants begin with a discussion
of current realities, including market factors, products and programs,
and alliances. It has been our experience that most companies have in
their executive ranks sufficient information concerning these and other
operational data to carry out the mission of the boot camp; however, it
is occasionally necessary to complete some research in advance of the
boot camp. As ideas are shared, the participants move into a stage of
issue evaluation, where they begin to identify and prioritize the strategic
success factors. We provide tools that assist participants in moving along
to develop and articulate a shared vision for the future and, from that
vision, to development of objectives, strategies, action plans, and implementation
schedules.
Vision
Book and Road Map
Hankin & Co. creates a vision book that documents the strategic
success factors discussed in the session and defines the objectives, strategies,
and implementation actions adopted. It serves as a road map to keep the
organization focused on its aligned objectives. As the organization moves
toward its objectives, the book should be updated to track emerging trends
and newly identified actions or mid-course adjustments required to achieve
selected objectives. For this reason, the road map can be disseminated
electronically, milestones tracked, and results shared among firm leadership.
The book can be modified for presentation to the entire organization.
Acceleration
Sessions
Sixty to ninety days after the strategy boot camp, participants meet in
an acceleration session to review progress and to re-evaluate the strategies.
The organization may elect to have multiple acceleration sessions, particularly
when long-term strategies have been adopted.
